Gateway Cameras Review – DC-T50 and DC-M50
By Imanuel Henry
Gateway has been entered the digital photography world with their model, including the DC-T50 and DC-M50 as their 5.25MP and 5.0MP Camera. Although many reviews were told its weakness from many sides, few of them were spoke its goodness. There is always
both strength and weakness from some products.
But for now, let's take a look for a while the
Gateway Cameras products
DC-T50
This DC-T50 is 5.25-megapixel cameras which can you get with $349. It is have a solid-looking metal body, with 3x optical zoom lens, and weight at 6-ounce. When the lens is closed, you can see that it is a little bit larger than a deck of cards.
This convenient size is one of the strength from
Gateway Cameras. You can fit it on your pocket, briefcase, or purse, makes it portable.
This
Gateway Cameras is suitable for the newcomer. It has mode dial that give the user great control of the camera that will allow the user to adjust the camera parameters. And it will give you excellent white balance.
As additional feature, you can take short video clips with sound from this Gateway Cameras. This camera is supported with good battery life time. Around 150 pictures you can
take for one charge along with the uses of LCD screen.
In the other hand, as mentioned above, this digital camera has some weakness as follows:
- the image taken from indoor is not as good as from outdoor
- you need to hold longer until the photo appears on the LCD or your movement will blur the image
- the time between pressing the shutter and getting the image is longer, especially if you using the 512MB, and
- Longer time for autofocus.
Overall, this Gateway Cameras can be said as the lowest-priced for 5-megapixrl cameras on the market. Whether it is worth or not with its price,
looking from its feature and usage which is depends on your opinion.
DC-M50
The brother from Gateway Cameras DC-T50, DC-M50 is having 5-megapixel with $249, 3x optical zoom, and 1.8” LCD screen. It may suit for your first digital camera for replacing the old film camera.
This Gateway Cameras are covered the basics well. It produces crisp image and can be printed until 11x14-inches.
Additional features offered are four automatic exposure modes; shoot 320x240 video clips with sound, record voice memos, self-portrait, record date and time as the part of the image, and white-balance presets.
But in the other side, the M50 is lack of rechargeable batteries, single center-weighted metering mode, limited light-sensitivity selections, and slow lens.
It is inexpensive, but for somewhat reason it ain't pretty. Just keep waiting until Gateway has doing improvements to make the Gateway Cameras in higher quality.
Conclusion
The Gateway Cameras DC-T50 can be said to be failed to rise anywhere from its price or resolution class. Although its design and feature is competitive, this Gateway Cameras still leave behind because of
its performance and image quality . This happened also with its brother the Dc-M50. Maybe from that reasons, this product is not released any longer. As mentioned before, let's wait for the new Gateway Cameras. Hope it will bring higher quality in produced image and performance.
