Laptop G4 is released by Apple. We can see the G4 series also applied to the Apple Laptop or Desktop. Laptop G4 Powerbook or iBook means the G4 series for laptop type while the Powermac is for the desktop .

Powerbook

Laptop G4 Powerbook is manufactured between 2001 and 2006. It using PowerPC G4 processor and designed in two ways. One is the 15-inch Macintosh Notebook covered by titanium body and translucent black keyboard while the rest is provides 12-, 15-, or 17-inch covered aluminum body with the match aluminum-colored keyboard.

The Laptop G4 Powerbook was the last generation of Powerbook series which continued with the succeed MacBook Pro line in 2006.

What you have to know first about Laptop G4 Powerbook is that this machine has less memory inside. You may feel it is not enough for multitasking if you often run more than two applications at once. But maybe the memory will be not a big problem because you can upgrade it into what number you like. There is only less software that can be run on Mac than Win in the period of the Powerbook G4 released.

iBook G4

This laptop G4 is released after the Powerbook G4, in 2004 until mid 2006. iBook G4 has the PowerPC G4 chip inside replacing the use of PowerPC G3 chip. The other different with its predecessor is the replaced disc tray with slot-loading optical drive .

This laptop G4 is delivers two types of scr een, 12-inch and 14-inch. Both of them also have at least 512MB of G4 memory inside. The sub-processor chip on the underside of this laptop G4 could separate the time due to expansion and contraction.

iBook G4 is designed in opaque white case finish and keyboard with plastic display hinge which corrected the translucent keyboard in PowerPC G3. It also has AirPort wireless card and additional memory.

For upgrading, you can add or replace the odd memory with using Philips 00 screwdriver. It is complicated and time consuming while accessing to replace the hard drive. It needs partial disassembly of the unit and removal of over 20 different-sized screws.

But in 2007, this laptop G4 receiving extensive report which concerning on iBook G4 logic board issue. The pre-1 GHz laptop G4 models suffered from the dead video problem for many reasons .
