Powerbook RAM for G4 Type

RAM, random access memory, is a form of data storage. It's allowed stored data to be accessed in any mode. Therefore RAM is a little like hard disc, but there are no moving parts and RAM is faster. The Powerbook from Macintosh, use RAM for storing data which can be accessed more quickly and easily . The more byte RAM you installed into your Powerbook, the more speed your Powerbook will run.

Why RAM is so important? Application is usually being loaded to your Powerbook RAM , as are files you running on. And when you use the entire available RAM, the system stored the information that supposed to be stored in RAM into your hard disk. When it happens, it seems a serious waiting, which is not always being showed by hard drive-grinding noise. Then it caused the system run slower because the system using hard disk to store information (RAM can be 100,000 faster than hard disk).

The Powerbook G4 used two model of RAM during its type. These two types of RAM can't compatible each other. It's the first thing you should consider before buying the right Powerbook G4 RAM. The earlier Powerbook G4 use DDR, and the latest use DDR2. You can check what of your Powerbook RAM type by using �About this Mac� menu. The phrase DDR SDRAM means DDR, and DDR2 SDRAM means DDR2.

The Powerbook G4 12� model, has one soldered memory either it's 128 or 256MB and one memory slot that can be upgraded to 1GB PC-2700-SO-DIMM. And for 15� and 17� model is have two memory slots which is use DDR2 for the type that released after Oct 20, 2005. And use DDR for earlier model . The specification for this memory RAM (for DDR and DDR2), in general is regarding to the type of SO-DIMM modules, number of memory slot, and maximum byte supported RAM.

Be sure before you buy the Powerbook memory. Its better that you buy from authorized dealer or Macintosh license and have life time warranty . Buying from entrusted party can inflict a financial loss whether at the first the price is lower. Not only that, for some case, your Powerbook can run smoothly for first time, but two months later it can run for no time.

After you buy the memory, further step is installing the device into your Powerbook RAM . First, turn off and unplug the power from your Powerbook then flip your notebook then you can see the backside.

Second, take out its battery and the screw that are holding the cover of the memory slot using screwdriver. Then the cover will be take-off. And third, install the memory module. One thing you should make sure is that the gold pins are facing down at a 30º angle (It's should be positioned correctly for the pins, line up the groves on the module with the groves on the slot). And forth, for the last, push the memory module down until the clips snap onto the module. When you turn-on your Powerbook again, you can see that the memory is increased.
